    Hey,
well I'm back in the big smoke (or should I say fog) of Launceston and my days of seeing the sun on a weekday are temporarily over as its surgery time for next few months. Flinders Island was good, three weeks is a long time to hang out in Whitemark (the biggest 'town' of the island) but we got to see some places and when we got rid of our crazy nurse who was living with us at the uni house and then got two public health researchers from the Uni, and one of them's three month old baby boy, things got a lot better. These two girls got a car and we got to see a few places together. While there was more work to do than I had expected it seemed we got the good deal as other guys were sticking with their GPs to 6-7 pm or later. Surely this classifies as some sort of cruelty to animals or something. We always finished before 5, sometimes sooner especially if one of the GPs wanted to go fishing after work, and all afternoon were slack. Flying to cape barren island was good too- its a realy pretty place but with a heap of problems.
Now I'm back in what could loosely be called civilisation I'm busy applying for jobs- well applying for Tasie jobs, Victoria and South Australia are done. Tasie has selection criteria and I really have no idea waht I am meant to be saying about "understanding of infection control principles and knowledge and commitment to the principles of occupational health and safety" except that I pinky swear to wash my hands between patients and not to lift anyone or anything who looks like they more than me!! Any ideas on selection criteria feel free to forward them to me. Otherwise I just got rejected from Royal Melbourne Hospital, slight bummer, but St Vincent's gave me a whole interview (which I certainly wasn't expecting). I've done an interview for Box Hill Hospital too, and I should have a good chance there as I've done two electives there already and they didn't even force me to fly over like the have the rest of the tasie applicants. On the Tasie front 31 med students in Launceston and 18-19 positions are not great figures, we are relying on a few people to move interstate. The other idea they had was forcing people to rotate through Burnie, which is not particularly appealing but would boost the number of positions to 26 or so.
    well that's it
catch up later and I'lll visit the south when our units not on call over the weekend.

    Hey all
For those who don't know I'm currently on rural placement. When you live in Tas, and they send you on a rural placement they don't kid around. I'm on Flinders Island!! Been here about a week now with two to go. So far its pretty cool, scenery is nice but we have no car to get around (the uni has some push bikes but its nearly killing us to get them moving). The GP place has attached 'hospital' and nursing home which is keeping us surprisingly busy. Otherwise, there's not a lot to do in town, missed the latest shipment of food today so cupboards running bare. Will one day try to climb the mountain. I'm also in the process of applying for jobs for next year, which is not easy with no mobile coverage, no phone, an this internet only at the 'hospital'. Don't know where I'll be next year, all depends on what I get offered. Well see ya. Hope you all having fun, good luck to those still with exams- at least I'm over that.

    Hey,
Well what's going on for me. Not much really. Just moved out of Emergency and now in ICU. There's bascially nothing to do in ICU (a heavy patient load of five patients, four unconscious doesn't mean there much to do) so I have time to do such things as update. Only news is that my final exams are on Sat, two weeks away. I wish I had the energy to do something about that. But as we are the first year to have exams in our final year for ages (lucky us) what's the worse that could happen? Otherwise still living with same wierdos, still chilling.
As for housewarming. Well there were heaps of people, unfortuantely mostly med students, but some real people! BBQ went fine despite poring with rain that afternoon. Danny T had his own dance party in the lounge with the Clin School's projector and the rest kept warm with beer blankets and some fire dancing. It was all going very normally until Grimmey, an intern, decide to initate the fifth years- a baptism of fire. So if your planning to get sick in the north for the next few years, I'd advise private health insurance. More info is you really want.
    Se ya all.

    Hey all,
As something actually happened in my life, I thought I'd update.
Went to Hobart for long weekend which was cool. Meet up with urainac, yellowblackstrip and clockworkhands. Haven't seen these guys for ages. So good to see you again. Also caught up with hailz, which was cool, she informed me that some (more) of the books were missing from the SJFC library, which we went to check out. Looks like a whole stand is mostly gone, with small bits randonly put on other shelves. So random and so annoying. I'd appreciate any further explaination if anyone has heard one. Otherwise it looked mostly alright,
Man I miss Hobart some times, its just a much better city to live at, pity about the hospital though (and the satanic dr's inside eh?). Oh well, its warmer up here, at least for the next two weeks.
You might be glad to hear that I am getting something done about that tooth- tomorrow. Otherwise going fine, should be on the wards but reading your updates instead and waiting for free lunch courtsey of evil drug companies, considering how evil they are, the lunches aren't that great. Hopefully this week I will get some of the mountain of paperwork and odd jobs done. well catch ya later

    To those it may concern,
I'm down in Hobart for the long weekend, message me if you're free.

Otherwise, nothing new to update on. Study same as always- final year if I can keep my act together. Feels like I've been a student for ever. Got new place in South Launnie, for those who don't know, quite nice. Otherwise everything is the same, General Med's a drag, but at least it will be over soon.
    see ya all later

    hey,
what do you call it when you wait around endlessly for a tute that may never happen, well I'm not sure but I'm doing it. Why didn't I leave hours ago- I don't know? Anyway updating lj wih so little to say can give you and impression of how much time I have spent doing nothing/ at POA which is the same, really. Well me and my five other 'true believers' must get back to the wait. This evening I will be chowing down on free dinner at the grand chancellor (lonnie) thanks to being fool enough to try to stay awake during haematology talk- wish me luck

Urology Surgeons= crazier than ENT surgeons, but with funnier stories. Bluetac really shouldn't be inserted anywhere.

I'd just like to announce to cyber space and some people far away that, yesterday, something happened that hasn't happened for 13 years!
SJFC acutally won a game of rugby! :-) :-) Look on suji's face said it all. Five years is a lot of morning trainings.
Well, I guess it would have been disappointing otherwise, especially after me and abe drove down from Devonport and back to Lonnie to see it. So they're actually going to be in the final, next week.'

PS girls did really well, scored, but lost to christ

Dead Sheep = Med Student Tramua
    Hey!
I don't know what other people were up to last weekend but I was in the sunny town of Oatlands, with half of my class mates on a trauma workshop weekend. This included some quality time inserting costal tubes and performing circothyroidectomies on dead and skinned sheep (ie inserting tubes between ribs to drain fluid and cutting a hole in the windpipe using a biro (almost) to keep the airway open (refer to TV)). And intubating maniqiuns (tube down throat). Now, if there is a dead sheep or dummy emergency I'm full eqiuipped to handle it. Too bad for the dead dogs, who did not thaw out sufficiently to be of use. Did I make any comment on the weather? Anyway it was quite fun, though my team were not the special team that got to go do the mock scenario with the SES, the jaws of life and one unfortunate Ford. Accommodation and food were much better than expected- and get this- also FREE!!!!! It was like college except I had on ensuite, double bed, and the meals were actually good. Oh well should do some study at last.

    c) occasional stabbings, including at the park next to us
    d) 'role plays'
All beware the answer is 'd'. Anyone who really, really, really finds these stupid tasks stupid so avoid here.

    Hey
    Nother few second to update.
Hey classes seem fine so far- one oncology an gastro and seem to have to be a two or three places at once- if you include the tute. Dreaded CBL day today- me and Abe escape presenting again- thank God. Otherwise no news except I have managed to avoid burning the kitchen down or giving myself gastro when its my time to cook. Will be coming down south pretty soon to say hi to you all- any free couches around?
See ya later good luck with uni for those who have to do it.

    Is anyone too surprised?

The Movie Of Your Life Is A Cult Classic

Quirky, offbeat, and even a little campy - your life appeals to a select few.
But if someone's obsessed with you, look out! Your fans are downright freaky.

Your best movie matches: Office Space, Showgirls, The Big Lebowski

Anyway having recovered from discoveries from last post that left me feeling simultaneously very stupid and very smart. One more week to freedom- four days if you don't count anymore of this one. Horray! Only one presentation which I'm supposed to be doing now to do. Must get on to it.
